Media Accreditation Criteria/Registration
The Dalai Lama’s Visit to Emory University, Oct. 20-22, 2007

Thank you for your interest in covering His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s Oct. 20-22 visit to Emory University. 

During his visit, the Dalai Lama will be installed as Presidential Distinguished Professor at Emory, and will participate in several events open to credentialed media including his installment in this professorship, a one-day conference on science and spirituality, an interfaith summit on religion as a source of conflict and a resource for peace-building, and a free public talk in downtown Atlanta at Centennial Olympic Park on Monday afternoon, October 22.

Registration deadline is Friday, Oct. 5, 2007

We welcome news coverage of these events, but given space limitations we have established the following accreditation criteria.  We reserve the right to require additional information on a case-by-case basis. If you meet the following criteria, please submit full information at address listed at end of email:

 

Staff Journalists / Media

Journalists who are on staff at newspapers, magazines, television, radio, wire services or photo agencies:

  • For television crews, each person must register individually in advance

•  Bring standard-issue media credentials for check-in at Emory, Oct. 20-22.

Freelance Journalists / Media – On Assignment

For freelance journalists or media on assignment from a recognized media outlet:
•     E-mail us in advance confirmation that you are on assignment – either an e-mail or letter from a recognized media outlet. 

  • We will review your e-mail and inform you of your accreditation status by Oct. 12.  
  • If you are credentialed, bring your e-mail or letter of assignment for check-in at Emory. 

Freelance Journalists/Media – Not Assigned

For freelance print journalists who wish to cover this event and have no confirmed assignment, we will consider requests on a case-by-case basis:

  • Send us an e-mail/letter with background information demonstrating that you have published a piece in a recognized media outlet during 2007, and include copies of your published pieces and your plans for pitching the potential story
  • We will review your materials and inform you of your accreditation status by Oct. 12.  

Freelance Photographers

  • Send us an e-mail that documents your photo placements and sales during 2006. 
  • Include in your e-mail how you intend to sell / distribute photos from this event.
  • We will review your information and inform you of your accreditation status by Oct. 12.

Web-based Media

We will credential web-based media on a case- by- case basis:

Send us an e-mail with a link to the website, provide us with information about the site, and outline how you intend to cover the program

  • Include links to previous by-lined web articles that you have published in 2007.
  • We will review your materials and inform you of your accreditation status by October 12.  

Television and Radio Documentaries

For freelance electronic media – primarily documentary videographers––we will issue credentials on a case-by-case basis:

  • Send us an e-mail us with your documentary plans, including in-hand funding, confirmed distribution or broadcast, and background on your successful projects to date.  
  • If you have never produced a documentary before and /or have no actual funding or distribution / broadcast in place, you will not be eligible for credentials.  Please note:  potential funding or distribution is not sufficient for press credentials.
  • We will review your materials and inform you of your accreditation status by Oct. 12.

Registration deadline is Friday, Oct. 5, 2007

By Friday, Oct. 12, all credentialed media will receive confirmation and detailed instructions regarding on-site coverage guidelines and check-in procedures.

The number of eligible requests for credentials at certain events may exceed the physical space available to accommodate media.  We reserve the right to assign media credentials to certain events so we may accommodate as many requests as possible.

Media credentials must be picked up in person at Emory University on Friday, Oct. 19.
